Hida Takumi Bunka kan is a museum which craftspeople, woodworkers and design fans must see. The building was designed by Kenji Yoshida who is well known as a wood architect. Kenji's architecture perfectly melts into the beautiful cityscape of Hida. The building was built from Hida wood by skillful Hida carpenters. Hida carpenters do not use nails to build a house. Instead, they assemble blocks of wood using differently cut joint patterns called Kumite and Tsugite.
The museum has an exhibition of Hida's carpenters' tools and materials which is an introduction to Hida's cityscape and townhouses. There is also a hands-on room where you can try making Kumite and Tsugite.
