Setogawa and Storehouse with plaster walls

Furukawa-cho

Setogawa is a man-made river created almost 400 years ago by using the water surrounding the Masushima Castle. The river was once the border between the Samurai and the villagers. More than 1,000 multi-colored carp swim in the river now. Along the river stand storehouses with plaster walls, sake breweries and some old town houses. Setogawa is s famous landmark in Hida Furukawa.
There are also 35 mud-walled warehouses behind the Enko-ji to Benten-sama.

Along the way to the Honko-ji are streets of Ichinomachi and Ninomachi. In this area, visitors can see traditional townhouses build by skillful Hida carpenters using Degoshi and Kumo techniques. Kumo is a wood carved decoration made by Hida carpenters starting in the mid-Showa period. The Kumo design is unique to each carpenter.

Mizuya(Public Spring)

Kamioka-cho

Water from the Funatsu Daido Spring which flows from the Daido Mountain is found in Kamioka City. These water has been selected as one of the 50 best in the Gifu Prefecture. For along time, the water has been used for everyday life in the town. The water temperature is 13 degrees c./55 degrees F throughout the year, which feels cold in summer and warm in winter.

Kamioka town is neither a historically splendid nor maintained well. People can see the charm of Kamioka only by walking around the town.
While it prospered as a mine town, the population has increased rapidly in the past. Because of the history, in the town of kamioka, many houses were built crowd each other on steep slope. You wiil see interesting and attractive scenery such as lovely small stairs after going through the alley between the houses and the houses.
