The Enko-ji, completed in 1514, is by the river Setogawa. The temple belongs to the Jodo Shinsyu Nishihongan-ji sect. A main building was built in 1667 in the early Edo period but has architectural features from the Muromachi period. The temple gate was originally used as gate for the Masushima Castle built by a warlord called Kanamori Kashige. The gate was moved to the Enko-ji site when the Masushima Castle was abandoned. There are two carved turtles, one female and one male, on each side of the building. They are called "turtles that bring water", and it is believed that they protected the temple from the fire that occurred in 1904.
